Leigh Cricket Club has been a member of the Liverpool and District Cricket Competition ('L&DCC'), the premier cricket league in Lancashire, since 1996. Home matches are played at Beech Walk, although Westleigh Methodists, about one and a half miles away, serves as a reserve ground when occasionally required. The club colours are green and gold.
The 1st XI were premier league runners-up in 2002, premier league knockout winners in 2000 and 2001, and knockout finalists in 2000 and 2003. The 3rd XI were premier division runners-up in 2005, winners in 2003, and Embee Trophy runners-up in 2001.

Leigh is one of the most easterly clubs in an extensive area covered by the L&DCC, stretching to members such as Colwyn Bay in North Wales, Wallasey, New Brighton and Caldy on the Wirral Peninsula, and Fleetwood Hesketh and Southport & Birkdale at the northernmost tip of Merseyside.
Four of the L&DCC member clubs' grounds are used for county cricket: Liverpool, Southport & Birkdale and Lytham are used by Lancashire CCC, and Colwyn Bay is used by Glamorgan CCC, so the facilities and standard of cricket at these and other L&DCC clubs are very good.

Leigh is a south Lancashire town eagerly awaiting its rebirth. Once an important jewel in the north west's industrial crown that boasted an important mine, mill, transport and engineering heritage, Leigh is set for a major revival.
On the verge of the national motorway network, and with waterway and nearby rail links, Leigh is ideally situated between Manchester and Liverpool to attract a multi-million strong regional populace. Apart from enjoying the nearby attractions of these two major cities, the town is just a short hop away from northerners' favourite playgrounds such as the Lake District and West Pennine Moors.
Plans for Leigh Sports Village have now received the green light as the town moves into the 21st century. The multi-million pound scheme is centered around an ambitious 10,000-seat stadium for Leigh Centurions RLFC, next door to the newly developed Wigan and Leigh College. All five stages of the Sports Village have been accepted: this combines two office complexes close to Atherleigh Way, retail warehousing on the site of Leigh East rugby league club's ground, the Marshall Street College and the stadium.
