The sportsman's dinner and summer ball were tremendous successes brought about by meticulous planning, organisation and effort -- a lot of effort!
Ray Vaughan's tireless efforts over the last few months ensured that the weekend would be one to remember. He did not do this for himself, nor to give his ego a boost, but did it for the club which he has supported from being a young boy, and also for the benefit of the members of every section.
Primarily a member of the tennis section who has given many years of service to its cause, Ray is also a very keen supporter of the cricket and bowls sections. He is therefore the ideal president and very highly respected by everyone at the club. His keenness to support all sections was proved earlier this year when he volunteered to play for the 3rd XI when the cricket team discovered that it was a man short -- and this was on a Saturday night at 10 o'clock! True to form, Ray was one of the first to assemble the following day in preparation for the match. His whole-hearted enthusiasm and approach to helping the team out was very much appreciated by the captain.
Many people have already been mentioned for their contributions on the evening of both events; rightly so because, without the work done by them, Ray would never have been able to put the weekend together. In addition to all those people, there was a full complement of willing helpers on both evenings who waited on tables and looked after the needs of the thirsty hordes. Although it was a new experience for them, they carried out their tasks with tremendous enthusiasm and laudable efficiency.
So thanks once again to all those who played their part, no matter how small a contribution it was; the overall event could not, and would not, have been the success it was without you all.
